Funny Sources Of Info When I Was Starting Out Freelancing in the Philippines More Than A Decade Ago

Aspiring freelancers and online business owners in 2023 are very lucky (compared to when I was starting out in 2009 or 2010).

Why?

Because there are lots of good sources of info and knowledge now.

There’s tutorials on Tiktok or Youtube, there are paid and free courses as well.

Heck, even some free ebooks or giveaways now contain some good info.

Back in the day, when I was starting as a freelancer (more than a decade ago), there is a literal famine of knowledge online.

I didn’t know who to ask for advice. There are no Filipino “mentors” or coaches or gurus (or maybe there are, I just didnt know them).

It’s all just trial and error.

So I set out to find freelancing communities online. And I utilized a “little known” source of info:

Yahoo Groups. 😅

Back in those days, there are also forums like Pinoyexchange, Pinoymoneytalk, and others.

That’s where I seek out groups related to freelancing—from people who are doing trial and error just like me.

(Yes, legit tito na po ako. Kung familiar ka sa websites na yun, ibig sabihin tito or tita ka na rin, hehe).

Those platforms are now considered antiquated or obsolete. But they did serve their purpose:

They helped me learn more about this freelancing thingy.

Fast forward to present day, I wrote a guide that I wish I had when I was starting out.

Would love to hand it to you so you won’t have to do trial and error just like I did back in the day.

It’s called How To Get Your First Freelance Clients (it’s a paid course priced at Php 499.00).
